Lehigh's C.O.A.C.H. program begins new year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s award winning C.O.A.C.H. program had its first event of the 2006-07 school year on Thursday afternoon as 25 Mountain Hawk student-athletes headed over to Donegan Elementary School for an assembly with 600 school children. The focus of the discussion was based on five topics, including responsibility, education, leadership, passion and inspiration. For the first time, Lehigh’s cheerleading squad took part in the event, while the school mascot was also in attendance.

The vision of the C.O.A.C.H. (Community Outreach by Athletes who Care about Helping) program is to involve as many Lehigh athletes as possible in meaningful community service experiences that reach as many young people as possible. The program operates in accord with the National Consortium for Academics and Sports to help (along with parents, teachers and coaches) elementary, middle and high school students and their peers, make informed choices regarding their education, drug and alcohol issues and other factors which may affect reaching their full potential. The C.O.A.C.H program's next scheduled event is set for Wednesday, October 4, when they head over to Nitschmann Middle School.
