LU tops men's race, third overall in Presidents' Cup

Lehigh participates in all 23 Patriot League championship sports. The Mountain Hawks are a member of the EIWA in the sport of wrestling, where Lehigh took home its fifth straight conference title in March.
On the men’s side, Lehigh finished in first place in the Patriot League for the third time, with 55.75 points. The men’s soccer team advanced to Patriot League Tournament for the sixth consecutive season, and the men’s basketball team finished in a second place tie during the regular season. The baseball team won the league’s tournament title for the first time in 2006 after sharing in the regular season championship.
The Lehigh women improved to fourth in the league with 41.50 points, climbing from sixth place after the winter season. Early on, Lehigh had been propelled by the first women’s soccer regular season championship in school history, and a second straight appearance in the Patriot League tournament for the field hockey program. The softball team was once again dominant en route to a regular season title in the spring, ultimately winning tournament as well.
Presidents’ Cup points are based by a team’s performance in the regular season and postseason. In football, the points are awarded based on the final regular season standings, while points in cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field, swimming & diving, golf and rowing are handed out based on the order of finish at the League championship. In team sports with postseason tournaments, points are awarded based on a combination of the League Championship and regular season standings.
Bucknell had won the award seven straight years, until Army broke that streak last year. The 2005-06 title marks the Bison’s 12th Presidents’ Cup victory. Lehigh has yet to capture the Presidents’ Cup, but the Mountain Hawks have finished second twice, most recently in 2000-01.
Lehigh is a founding member of the Patriot League.
