BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s and women’s golf teams return to action this weekend, as the Mountain Hawks play host the Don Mershon Classic on Saturday through Monday at Indian Valley Country Club.  The event is in its 13th season, and, for the fourth consecutive year, the classic will showcase both men’s and women’s teams.

“We are thrilled to once again host this tournament,” said Lehigh head coach Kelly Gutshall '50.  “This is a fantastic opportunity for our men’s and women’s teams to play against some top competition, and to be able to host the event on such a marvelous course is truly wonderful.”

The tournament features 16 men’s entries and a tournament record twelve women’s teams.  The event was named for the late Don Mershon, former Vice President of Lutron Electronics and friend of the Lehigh golf program.  Lutron, a corporate partner of Lehigh Athletics, has its worldwide headquarters in nearby Coopersburg.

Last year, Siena College became the first school to win both the men’s invitational and the women’s invitational in the same year.

The Don Mershon Classic gets underway with a practice round on Saturday.  Tournament play begins on Sunday, with a 1:00 shotgun start.  The two-day, 36-hole event wraps up with a 9:00 shotgun start on Monday.  Complete results from the event will be posted on the Lehigh web site at the conclusion of play each day.
