Fourteen Lehigh student-athletes came out to read to classes of students from kindergarten to the fifth grade in the C.O.A.C.H. program’s first major event of the spring semester. Each participating student-athlete was assigned to a class, where they read stories to and answered questions from the students in their class.
“I love it, the kids are great,” said junior swimmer Jen Orellana. “They’re always really excited and they ask a lot of questions.”
Senior Jessica DePalo, co-chair of the C.O.A.C.H. program and a member of the basketball team enjoys this particular event because the student-athletes can interact with the kids on a more personal level.
“We usually do a lot more assemblies,” DePalo explains. “Here we get a chance to meet with the children in a more intimate setting.”
The program will continue to visit schools throughout the spring semester and will hold another “Breakfast for a Buck” event later this semester. The fall “Breakfast for a Buck” was highly successful as student-athletes raised money for to fight ALS.
