Basketball teams back in action Saturday vs. Navy

The Lehigh basketball teams are both 2-0 in the league, and they look to remain unbeaten on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks square off against the Midshipmen of Navy. The Lehigh men’s team travels to The men will be looking for their third consecutive 3-0 start in league play under head coach Billy Taylor, who is coaching in his 75th career game. The Mountain Hawks have never lost a game versus the service academies (Navy and Army) under Lehigh has enjoyed its most success under Billy Taylor in the first month of the year. The Mountain Hawks are 16-5 in January under With 210 assists on 302 field goals this season, Lehigh has assisted on almost 70 percent of its baskets. The Mountain Hawks have not been below 70 percent in that category in the last nine games, averaging a 79 percent assist rate on all field goals, including a season-high tying 86 percent rate versus Columbia when the Brown and White had 12 assists on 14 FG’s. As for the women, Wednesday night’s win at With a 10-4 record, the Mountain Hawks have reached the ten-win plateau faster than any Lehigh team in the Sue Troyan era. This year’s squad is off to the best start since the 1985-86 season, when the program began that season with a 10-2 mark. That season’s team won the East Coast Conference championship. Meanwhile, Navy heads to The Lehigh seniors have posted a 28-16 record in Patriot League games during their careers, which is the league’s second best record during that stretch. Only Holy Cross (35) has won more league games since the 2001-02 season. The Lehigh class of 2005 is 14-8 in league home games. Lehigh leads the all-time women’s series, 16 games to 15. The Mountain Hawks have won the last seven meetings between these two teams, and nine of the last ten matchups. Lehigh is 9-7 all-time against the Midshipmen in games played at Stabler Arena. Under Sue Troyan, the Lehigh hoopsters are 12-7 all-time against the Midshipmen. Saturday’s men’s tip-off is scheduled for just after 2:00 from Navy’s Alumni Hall.
