Calabrese nets Patriot League honor

Bethlehem, PA- Freshman forward Lauren Calabrese was named Patriot League Freshman of the Week Monday, becoming the second Mountain Hawk player to earn an award already this season.

Calabrese was honored after averaging 1.5 points per game in two games, a 2-1 loss to Stony Brook on Wednesday and a 1-0 victory over rival Lafayette to open Patriot League play Saturday. Against Stony Brook Calabrese netted her third goal of the season, and she assisted on the goal that beat Lafayette. Calabrese leads the team with 11 points on the season.

Coach Manny Oudin was proud of Calabrese’s accomplishments. “Lauren has established herself as a very important part of this team,” said Oudin. “She is certainly a big part of the results (the team is an all-time best three games over .500) we’ve had so far. She has always been a talented player physically, but now she is starting to play well with her head too.”Calabrese’s play has helped the Mountain Hawks to a 1-0 start in Patriot League play, and they will travel to West Point to take on Army on Tuesday. The game will be broadcast live on Lehigh’s website, with action starting at 7:00.
