With the 2009 spring semester in the books, Lehigh student-athletes turn their attention towards the summer months where they have a chance to reflect on the past year with some rest and relaxation, while also preparing for what lies ahead. Lehighsports.com caught up with several student-athletes and asked them what they are up to this summer. Here is what they had to say.
This summer, my roommate Brendan McGaheran and I, are going to Victoria, Texas to play baseball in the Texas Collegiate League for the Victoria Generals. We are going there for the whole summer. Should be fun.
Andy Russell, Baseball, Jr., Business
This summer I am going on a cruise to Alaska with my family. The rest of the time I will probably just hang out at home and possibly get a job.
Jen Colquhoun, Softball, So., Arts and Sciences
This summer I am going to be taking classes in order to complete my co-op program at Crayola in the fall. My throwing coach is holding a throwers camp club over the summer which I will be helping at. I will also be training for Track and Field.
James Pachucki, Track and Field, Jr., Engineering
This summer I will be in Massachusetts, enjoying myself and teaching sailing to eight through twelve year olds. I have been doing this for five years and am excited to do it for one more summer before I have to get an internship.
Andrew Woodward, Rowing, Jr., Engineering
I will be taking summer courses at Harvard, including Law & Psychology and Criminals, Terrorist, and Delinquents; this is my second year going there.
Ana Nam, Women’s Golf, Jr., Arts and Sciences
I plan to spend most of this summer at Lehigh. Most of my summer will be spent preparing for preseason, playing with a competitive soccer team and most likely working at a local restaurant, but I'm also hoping to fit in some Rest and Relaxation time at the Jersey Shore.
Hailey Coonrad, Women’s Soccer, Sr., Psychology
This summer I'm working at a daycare center, taking a summer class at a school near my house, and playing in a field hockey summer league.
Allie Kowalski, Field Hockey, Jr., Arts and Sciences
I will be studying abroad for six weeks at the American Business School in Paris. Other than that, probably working at a small job somewhere!
Andrea Mascaro, Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field, Jr., Arts and Sciences
This summer, I will be staying here at Lehigh because I have an internship at Coordinated Health. I will also be training here at Lehigh for the upcoming wrestling season. In addition, I will be taking a summer class in microeconomics in order to prepare for the masters program that I will be starting in the fall.
Manuel Schubert, Wrestling, Sr., Biology
My major is Earth and Environmental Science and for the B.S. program it is a requirement to go on Field Camp. Field Camp is a six-week, six-credit research trip across the United States. We travel to different mountains and parks such as Pipestone, the Badlands, Devil's Tower, Bighorn Mountains, Yellowstone, Pinedale, Red Hills, and Mackay (basically tons of places between Wyoming and Idaho). After that big excursion, I will be getting ready for our season, working the young kids' volleyball camps in July, and coming back for preseason in August.
Mo McReynolds, Volleyball, Sr., Earth and Environmental Science
This summer I'll be up at school training with other Lehigh swimmers and I'll also be coordinating Lehigh's swim camp and serving as a counselor for it.
Allison Rolish, Swimming and Diving, Sr., Journalism
