Final Presidents' Cup standings released

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League released the final 2008-09 Presidents’ Cup Standings on Monday and Lehigh checked in with 86.5 total points, which places the Mountain Hawks in fifth place overall. The men (41.5 points) finished fourth overall, while the women (45 points) placed fifth. Bucknell won its fourth consecutive Presidents’ Cup as the Bison totaled 122 points to out-distance second place Navy (109.25 points). Army checked in at number-three, followed by Colgate, the Mountain Hawks, Holy Cross, Lafayette and American.
On the men’s side, Army claimed first place with 56.75 points. The Black Knights won the outdoor track and field championship and the baseball championship to narrowly defeat Bucknell (56.25). Navy is third with 53.75 points and Lehigh checked in at number-four with 41.5 points. The Mountain Hawks are followed by Colgate, Lafayette, Holy Cross and American.
In the women’s standings, Bucknell took the top spot with 65.75 points, while Navy was second after the Midshipmen recorded 55.5 points. Colgate checks in at number three with 51 points, Army is fourth with 47 points and Lehigh finished fifth with 45 points. The Mountain Hawks won the 2009 softball title and the women’s tennis and women’s lacrosse teams earned spots in the semifinals of their respective league tournament.
Presidents’ Cup points are based on a team’s performance in the regular season and postseason. Bucknell has won 15 Presidents’ Cups. Lehigh has yet to capture the Presidents’ Cup.
