Latest Presidents' Cup standings released

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League released the latest 2008-09 Presidents’ Cup Standings on Tuesday and Lehigh checked in with 53 total points, which places the Mountain Hawks in sixth place overall. The men (27 points) are currently third overall, while the women (26 points) sit in sixth place. Bucknell is the current overall leader with 66.0 points, and is followed by Navy, Army, American, Colgate, the Mountain Hawks, Holy Cross, and Lafayette.

On the men’s side, Army has totaled 28.75 points throughout the fall and winter to take the lead. The Black Knights won the indoor track and field championship and finished third at the swimming championship to move narrowly in front of second place Colgate (27.25). Lehigh checks in at number-three with 27 points, which is tied with Bucknell. They are followed by Navy, American, Holy Cross and Lafayette.

In the women’s standings, Bucknell and Navy currently sit on top with 39.0 points apiece, followed by Army, with 33.5 points. American checks in at number four, while Colgate, the Mountain Hawks, Holy Cross and Lafayette round out the standings. Lehigh won the 2009 Patriot League women’s basketball regular season and tournament championships.

Presidents’ Cup points are based on a team’s performance in the regular season and postseason. Bucknell has won 14 Presidents’ Cups. Lehigh has yet to capture the Presidents’ Cup, but the Mountain Hawks have finished second twice.
