Work Out a Cure set for October 18

Six people will constitute a team (either six men, six women, or three men and three women), with two team members performing each activity. Points are awarded based on performance in a trio of activities. In the men’s events, participants will be asked to run a 5K, complete as many 80-pound bench press repetitions as they can and perform as many parallel bar dips as possible in 30 seconds. The women’s activities include a 5K run, bench pressing 35-pounds as many times as possible and performing as many crunches as they can in two minutes.
The cost to enter Work Out a Cure is $60 per team or $10 per individual. Donations and sponsorships will also be key contributors toward this event. All registrants are provided with a promotional gift pack that includes a t-shirt, towel and an eligibility food ticket. Team and individual winners earn an MDA Challenge Plaque for their efforts. Free fitness classes and other promotional items will be available during the event.
Open registration dates for the event will be held inside the Welch Fitness Center at the Lower Office on October 15th, 16th and 17th from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM and in the University Center on October 17th from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the second floor information table. Registration will also be taken on the day of the event.

MDA covers over 40 different neuromuscular diseases including spinal muscular atrophy, ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Muscular Dystrophy can affect anyone regardless of age, sex and race.
