Mountain Hawks travel to Holy Cross on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With just two games left in the regular season, Lehigh begins its final push for a spot in the Patriot League tournament as the Mountain Hawks travel to Worcester, Massachusetts Saturday to battle Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks are tied with rival Lafayette for the fourth in the league standings and can create a tie for second or third in the league standings with a victory Saturday on the Hart Turf Field.
The Mountain Hawks dropped their final non-league contest 3-1 at Columbia Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Lehigh showed significant improvement from its performance in its loss to rival Lafayette last Saturday. Junior Taryn Hartzell netted her third goal of the season for Lehigh which enters Saturday’s game at 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League. Hartzell’s three goals tie her with senior Lindsey Smith for third on the team, behind freshman Kim Eng (nine) and senior Morgan Christopher (five).
Defensively, Hartzell’s four defensive saves are second to classmate Lauren Cawley’s six among field players.
Holy Cross enters Saturday’s game at just 4-11 overall, but the Crusaders are tied with Bucknell for second in the league with a 2-1 mark. The Crusaders own league wins over Lafayette and Colgate and suffered their lone league loss to first-place American. Holy Cross’ last game was a 4-2 home victory over Colgate last Saturday.
The Crusaders offense is led by Courtney Callahan who has eight goals and 17 points, and Alanna Sikorski, who has added five goals and 11 points. Casey Kelly has played every minute in the goal cage this season and owns a 3.43 goals-against average.
Holy Cross owns a 16-5 edge in the series, including a wild 4-3 victory over the Mountain Hawks last season in Bethlehem. Lehigh did defeat the Crusaders 3-2 in its last trip to Worcester, breaking an 11-game Holy Cross win streak in the series in the process.
Saturday’s game gets underway at noon from the Hart Turf Field.
