Mountain Hawks lose two at Towson Invitational

Lehigh started off on the wrong foot against
“We just knew how much was really in our control,” Maurer said. “We just really put the pressure on them, and when we did that, we stepped up our game.”
Chelsea Sheridan was named to the All-Tournament team for her play over the weekend. The freshman totalled 16 kills and hit better than .300 in two of the three matches in Towson.
Maurer said her team looked hesitant and tentative in the opening sets, but that all melted away and they made a change all of a sudden. The Mountain Hawks rallied for a 25-22 win in the third set, and came back with a 25-18 win in the fourth.
“It’s almost as if we flipped a switch,” Maurer said. “We said ‘enough is enough, we’re going down fighting.’”
But the Terrapins were too strong in the fifth set for the Mountain Hawks. They came out swinging and put Lehigh away, 15-6.

“We just couldn’t get into our own rhythm,” Maurer said. “They had scouted us and were good at getting us out of our offensive plan.”
Angelika Kopacz once again led the Mountain Hawks in kills, with 21 in the two matches combined. On the defensive end, Brittany Thurston notched 32 digs in two matches, by far leading all Brown and White players.
The losses move the Mountain Hawks’ record to 4-8 this season. After losing three matches on the weekend, Maurer said the trip was a learning experience.
“I think we still have a lot to learn when it comes to making a statement at the outset,” Maurer said. “But I think we definitely have a direction, and we’re anxious to get back to work.”
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Friday, when they host Holy Cross at Leeman-Turner Arena.
