BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh saw its two-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday evening as the Mountain Hawks dropped a 3-1 decision to Rider at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Junior Kelly Fox scored Lehigh’s lone goal of the evening, her fourth goal in the last five games, but it wasn’t enough as Eric McGinniss found the back of the cage twice in the opening half to propel the Broncs past the Mountain Hawks.  With the loss Lehigh now sits at 3-4 on the season, while visiting Rider ups its record to 3-3.

McGinniss scored the game’s first goal at the 9:30 mark of the opening half off of a feed from Tricia Crotty, and she added her second score of the game 2:39 later, this time on an assist from Mandy Hunter.  Fox cut Lehigh’s deficit in half however, as she scored off a feed from senior Kara Zweizig which made the score 2-1.  That is how the teams remained when they retired for halftime.  Lehigh was outshot 12-8 in the opening half, but had seven penalty corners, compared to Rider’s zero.

In the second half, Diana Celebre gave the Broncs saw breathing room when she scored off a feed from Crotty at the 47:39 mark.  Lehigh was unable to get any closer and saw its two-game win streak come to an end.

Rider outshot the Mountain Hawks 21-14 for the game, but Lehigh was awarded nine penalty corners to Rider’s four.  Jessica Miller went the full 70 minutes in goal for the Brown and White and sent back 11 shots, while Rider goal keeper Lyndsie Johnson also went the distance, turning back eight shots on the night.

“We need to play with a sense of urgency from the beginning of the game,” said Lehigh head coach Julie Mazer. “Rider took advantage of our early disorganization and put the ball in goal. We had moments where we played together, but we were never able to put it together for the full 70 minutes.”

Lehigh is back in action on September 26 when the Mountain Hawks begin a five-game road trip in Philadelphia versus the Explorers of La Salle.  Game time is set for 4:00.
