BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second straight week a member of the Lehigh field hockey program was recognized with a weekly award from the Patriot League. On Monday, sophomore goalkeeper Lilia Stefaniwsky was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week, largely in part to an eight save, one goal allowed performance in the Mountain Hawks’ 4-1 victory over Georgetown Friday night.
Stefaniwsky made the most of her first career start in the cage for the Brown and White, turning aside eight shots and posting a save percentage of .889 en route to her first career victory. She kept the Hoyas off the scoreboard for over 60 minutes while the Mountain Hawks built a 3-0 lead. Stefaniwsky also played the final 35 minutes in Lehigh’s midweek loss to Princeton, making four saves and holding the high-powered Tigers offense to just three goals.
For the season, Stefaniwsky has seen time in three of Lehigh’s five games and holds a 2.50 goals-against average with 14 saves. Stefaniwsky appeared in four games in 2007 and did not allow a goal, while making five saves.
Also on Monday, junior Kelly Fox earned an honorable mention from the league after totaling four goals in two games last week including her first career hat-trick in the win over the Hoyas. Fox, who has now scored a goal in three consecutive games, leads the Patriot League with five goals and is tied for the league lead with ten points.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the turf on Wednesday when they host the Red Flash of St. Francis (Pa.). Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex and all the action can be seen at Lehighsports.com with streaming video powered by Yahoo! Sports College Broadcast.
