BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh closes out the 2008 calendar year on Wednesday afternoon with a visit to Newark, New Jersey to take on the NJIT Highlanders at the Fleischer Center.  A win would give the Brown and White its best start since the 1925-26 season and also set a school record for the most non-league victories in a single season.  The Mountain Hawks were last in action on Sunday when they downed Longwood 72-57 at Stabler Arena behind double-double performances by Zahir Carrington (17 points, 15 rebounds) and Phil Anderson (16 points, 12 rebounds).  That win, Lehigh’s third straight, sent the Mountain Hawks to their best start since 1980.  NJIT enters Wednesday’s contest seeking its first victory of the season.  The Highlanders were downed by Wagner at home on Sunday 68-58 despite placing four players in double figures, led by Jheryl Wilson’s 16 points.

The Mountain Hawks currently lead the Patriot League in field goal percentage defense (.387) and three-point field goal percentage defense (.359).  Lehigh has held six opponents below 40-percent from the field thus far, and ten opponents below 40-percent from three-point range.

Through 11 games, Lehigh has posted four games of single digit turnovers, with a season low of six at Monmouth.  The Mountain Hawks, who had just five games of fewer than ten turnovers last year, are 32nd nationally in fewest turnovers per game in the most recent NCAA statistics.

Wednesday’s game gets underway at 2:00 from the Fleischer Center in Newark, New Jersey.  The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM as well as Lehighsports.com with Matt Kerr and Steve Lomangino providing the commentary.  Pre-game coverage gets underway at 1:30.
