Lehigh welcomes Longwood to town on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh welcomes the Longwood Lancers to Stabler Arena on Sunday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the schools.  Lehigh was scheduled to play the University of Washington in Seattle on December 23, but the trip was cancelled due to inclement weather, so the last time Lehigh was in action was an 80-71 victory over Monmouth on December 21 in New Jersey.  Marquis Hall led the Brown and White with 23 points in the victory, while Phil Anderson added a career-high 16 and Rob Keefer chipped in with 15.  The Mountain Hawks held a 30-point first half lead in the game, but Monmouth rallied to close within seven in the final minutes before Lehigh held on for its second straight victory, and school record fourth non-league road win.  Longwood enters this weekend’s game having defeated NAIA member Virginia Intermont 113-60 on December 20 in Farmville, Virginia.  The Lancers are just 1-4 on the road this season, but 4-1 at home.

Lehigh scored a season-best 80 points in its win over Monmouth, including 48 in the first half - its most points in a single half since netting 59 in the second half of last season’s opener at Cornell.  The 80 total points were the most the Mountain Hawks have scored since hitting for 88 in a double overtime affair with Quinnipiac in November of 2007.  Lehigh also set season highs in three-point attempts (26), free throw attempts (37) and made free throws (28).

Lehigh has turned the ball over a total of only 15 times in its last two games, including a season low six times in the win over Monmouth.  The six TOs were the Mountain Hawks fewest since January 2, 2004 when they committed just five turnovers in a win over Wagner.

Sunday’s game tips off at 1:00 from Stabler Arena, and will be broadcast live on 91.3 WLVR-FM with Matt Kerr and Greg Falkenbach ’72 providing the commentary.  Live video of the game will be available at Lehighsports.com.
