BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh opens its 2008-09 season on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey as the Mountain Hawks take on the Saint Peter’s Peacocks.  Lehigh returns every player from last year’s roster but one, including All-League selection Marquis Hall and 2008 Patriot League Rookie of the Year Rob Keefer.  The Mountain Hawks defeated Saint Peter’s 60-56 last season at Stabler Arena for head coach Brett Reed’s first win at Lehigh en route to a 14-win season and third place in the Patriot League.  Saint Peter’s fielded a young team a season ago, led by Wesley Jenkins, who led the Peacocks in scoring and was named to the preseason all-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Team.

Lehigh will log more than 3,800 miles this season in its travels including a cross country excursion to Seattle to take on the Washington Huskies for the second time in the last four seasons.  In addition, the Mountain Hawks will hit the road to play non-league games at Saint Peter’s, Rutgers, Dartmouth, Stony Brook, Monmouth, NJIT and Princeton.

Lehigh is 60-47 all-time in season openers.  Last season the Mountain Hawks hung tough with eventual Ivy League Champion and NCAA qualifier Cornell on its home floor before falling 87-83.  Lehigh has not won a season opener since 2002, when the Brown and White downed Dartmouth 68-62 in Bethlehem.

Lehigh and St. Peter’s will get things started at 4:00 on Saturday from New Jersey.  The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as Lehighsports.com with Tom Fallon calling the action.
