1/26/2008 12:00:00 AM | Men's Wrestling

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lehigh completed a Saturday sweep of EIWA foes in New England with a convincing 25-9 victory over Brown Saturday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Mountain Hawks won the first seven bouts to build a 22-0 lead and coasted to their third straight dual win overall. With the win Lehigh improves to 10-11 overall and is now a perfect 6-0 in EIWA duals. Brown falls to 4-6 overall, 1-4 in the EIWA with the loss.

As part of its seven bout win streak to start the dual, Lehigh won the first six of those matches by decision. Freshman Mitch Berger started the run with an 8-6 sudden victory win over Nathan Myers at 125. Berger yielded the tying takedown late in the third period, but scored on a counter shot in overtime to pick up his first dual meet win of the season.

Sophomore Seth Ciasulli followed with a 6-0 win over Jeff Schell at 133 in one of the evening’s most anticipated match-ups. The Lehigh lead grew to 9-0 as Jeff Santo built a two minute riding time advantage that proved to be the difference in a 6-5 win over Mark Savino at 141.

At 149 junior Trevor Chinn also needed sudden victory, but like Berger was able to secure a decisive takedown and pull out a 3-1 win over Mark Bloom. Senior Dave Nakasone then followed with a pair of takedowns and two reversals in a 9-5 decision over Tom Fazio at 157, putting the Brown and White up 15-0 at the halfway point.

Mike Galante picked up his second win of the day at 165, with four takedowns in a 9-2 win over Chris Musser at 165. The Mountain Hawks finally put bonus points on the board at 174, as freshman Alex Caruso delivered Lehigh’s lone bonus win of the dual with a 14-5 major decision over Casey McCurdy.

Brown finally stopped Lehigh’s run with a win by decision at 184, and Branden Stearns first period pin of Lehigh sophomore Alex Iacocca, before Justin Allen earned Lehigh an 8-2 split in bout wins, as riding time proved to be the difference in a 2-1 win over Zach Zdrada.

Earlier Saturday, Lehigh knocked-off Harvard 23-15 in Cambridge, Mass. Ciasulli and Caruso earned wins by major decision to pace the Brown and White, who have now won ten straight against the Crimson.

The Mountain Hawks will take next weekend off and will return to the mats on Friday February 8, when they host the 12th-ranked Hofstra Pride. The match gets underway at 7 p.m. from Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Tickets can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME or by visiting the Lehigh ticket office, located in Grace Hall.
