COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Lehigh hung tough with ACC member Maryland for nearly 65 minutes on Sunday, but Kaila Sciascia scored a pair of second half goals to give the host Terrapins a 2-0 win over the Mountain Hawks Sunday at Ludwig Field. The win improves Maryland’s record to 5-2-2, while Lehigh now stands at 5-3-2 heading into Patriot League play, which begins next weekend.

Following a scoreless first half, Maryland asserted itself in the second stanza, out shooting Lehigh 14-2 after halftime. Sciascia scored her first goal off a deflection in the 66th minute. Kelly Rozumalski added an assist on the play.

Twenty minutes later, Sciascia put the game out of reach with her second goal. Goalkeeper Yewande Balogun cleared he ball downfield past the Lehigh defense, and Sciascia ran onto the loose ball and shot it past freshman goalkeeper Lauren Mains to make it 2-0 with four minutes to play.

The Terps out shot Lehigh 23-5 on the afternoon, and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Liz Carlos had two of Lehigh’s five shots on the afternoon. Seniors Shannon Lockwood and Melissa Montalvo, along with junior Emily Means each recorded shots on goal as well for the Brown and White.

Junior Julie Kafka made three saves for the Mountain Hawks in the first half, while Mains stopped four shots in the second 45 minutes. Balogun made three saves on the afternoon to earn the shutout.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the pitch on Sunday, October 7, when they open league play at Holy Cross. Game time is set for noon from Linda Johnson Smith Stadium in Worcester, Mass.
