EMMITSBURG, Md. – Lehigh opened up its final weekend of non-league action with a 1-0 road win at Mount St. Mary’s, Friday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium. Freshman Stephanie DeLuca netted the game’s only goal in the 32nd minute, as the Mountain Hawks improve to 5-2-2 on the season, while Mount St. Mary’s falls to 2-7.

“This was a good result for us, as we reach the halfway point of our season,” said Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin. “We would have liked to play a little more of our game, and we had chances to put some more goals on the board, but coming away with a win on the road is always a positive.”

DeLuca scored her first collegiate goal at the 31:41 mark after dribbling down the right side of the field and firing a shot past Mountaineer goalkeeper Anna Lebo into the far left part of the goal. Mount St. Mary’s out shot Lehigh 9-8 in the opening 45 minutes, but junior Julie Kafka made four saves to keep the Mountaineers off the scoreboard.

In the second half, Mount St. Mary’s pressured for an equalizer, out shooting Lehigh 7-5, but came up empty, as Lehigh wrapped up its fourth shutout of the season. Freshman Lauren Mains was credited with one save in her 45 minutes of action.

Lehigh earned the victory despite being out shot 16-13 for the game. Sophomore Liz Carlos led the way for the Brown and White, firing six shots on the afternoon. Each team had six corner kicks on the day, while Mount St. Mary’s committed ten fouls compared to nine for Lehigh.

Lebo finished with five saves for the Mountaineers.

With the victory, Lehigh improved to 4-0-1 on Fridays this season, and all four Mountain Hawk wins have been shutouts.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the pitch on Sunday when they travel to ACC member Maryland in their final tune-up before Patriot League play begins next weekend. Game time is set for 1 p.m. from Ludwig Field in College Park, Md.
