The Mountain Hawks and Dragons played to a scoreless first half, but Lehigh was in control for a majority of the half. They recorded six shots including two great scoring chances by Adam Welch and Jim Taranto. Welch’s header early in the first half almost put the Mountain Hawks on the scoreboard, however, Drexel goalie Derrec Mongan made a great stop to keep the Dragons in the game.
The second half started quickly as Drexel forward Anthony Bafile had a breakaway, but Lehigh keeper Brian Lee, in his first game as a Mountain Hawk, was able to smother it to keep the game scoreless. Lehigh was able to strike first with a breakaway goal by sophomore Kyle Evans in the 48th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Jim Taranto put the Mountain Hawks up by two, as Evans assisted on the goal.
The Dragons wouldn’t go away quietly however, as Anthony Bafile put in two goals late in the second half to tie the game up at 2-2. The second goal by Bafile was scored in the 87th minute.
“We did a poor job of protecting our lead,” said head coach Dean Koski. “We weren’t able to lock up players in the box.”
“I have to give credit to Drexel,” added Koski “they brought it and this win will definitely catapult them.”
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Thursday, as they play host to the Delaware Blue Hens. The game will be televised on Service Electric 2 Sports and will be broadcast on Lehighsport.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
