The program’s highest honor, the Scholar-Athlete Award went to freshman Manuel Schubert. Given to the student who best combines academics and athletics, Schubert, a biology major, has earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average in each of his first three semesters at Lehigh. On the mat, Schubert entered the starting lineup at mid season and started in 15 duals for the Brown and White at 165.
Freshman David Craig was named the team’s Outstanding Athlete, awarded to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishment of the team. Craig tied for the team lead in victories with 31, and had the farthest advancement of any Lehigh wrestler in the NCAA Championships, winning three matches and finishing one win short of earning All-America honors.
The Coaches Award went to senior Paul Weibel. The award is given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement, or special leadership. Weibel, a team tri-captain, developed from a one-time state placer in high school into a four-time EIWA place winner and two-time NCAA qualifier.
The Lehigh wrestling banquet was made possible by the Lehigh Athletics Partnership program, whose mission is to promote interest in Lehigh Athletics, to encourage and provide financial support to the program and to enhance relations with all former participants, fans, friends, and parents of Lehigh student-athletes.
