Mountain Hawks edged by La Salle in Philadelphia

Leading the charge for the Mountain Hawk men was sophomore Dan Johnson, who again won all three of the sprint events. Johnson won the 200 in 1:42.24 then went on to take the 50 free in 21.81 seconds and the 100 free in 48.08. Senior Tom Gilbert once again swept the backstroke events to earn 18 team points.
Junior Jonathan Kearney swept the butterfly events, winning the 100 in 53.15 and the 200 in 1:55.48. Freshman Kevin McGrath was the Mountain Hawks other individual male winner, taking the 100 breast in 1:00.12. Lehigh also won the 400 medley relay.
Seniors Julie Mitchell and Betsy Balaguer led the charge for the Lehigh women, as they both won two individual events on the afternoon. Mitchell swept the backstroke events, taking the 100 in 1:01.09 and the 200 in 2:11.01. Balaguer took top honors in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.11 and the 500 free in 5:15.64.
Other winners for the Mountain Hawks were freshmen Allison Rolish, who won the 1000 free, and Julie Sicherman who won the 100 fly in 59.79. Lehigh’s women also won both the 400 medley relay and the 200 free relay.
The Mountain Hawks will now focus on training for the Patriot League Championships, which begin on Thursday, February 15, from Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium in
