LEWISBURG, Pa. – Two more school records fell for Lehigh on the final day of the 2007 Patriot League swimming and diving championships at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium. Sophomore Melanie Rolish smashed her own school record in the 200 yard breaststroke to finish second in the event, while senior Tom Gilbert broke his own record in the 200 back, picking up his second runner-up finish in as many days. Lehigh’s men finished fourth with 420 points while the women placed fifth with 351 points.

One day after breaking her own school mark in the 100 breast, Rolish went out and broke the 200 record by nearly three seconds with a time of 2:18.97, to earn Lehigh’s highest individual female finish of the championships.

Other women’s results saw freshman Allison Rolish and senior Betsy Balaguer finish third and fourth respectively in the 1650 yard freestyle. Rolish posted a time of 17:28.83, while Balaguer followed with a 17:31.36. Senior Julie Mitchell was Lehigh’s other female finalist on the day, placing fourth in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.35.

On the men’s side, Gilbert added second place in the 200 back to his runner-up finish in the 100 on Saturday. His time of 1:49.42 took nearly a second off the school mark he set last year.

Elsewhere on the men’s side, sophomore Dan Johnson flirted with a school record in the 100 free, but settled for a third place finish in 45.82, the fourth fastest time in school history. Junior Jonathan Kearney and freshman Kevin McGrath also qualified for championship finals. Kearney placed sixth in the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.47, while McGrath took eighth place in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:09.34.

Junior Clark Cohen scored 248.55 points to place sixth in the men’s one meter dive, while the team of Johnson, Gilbert, junior Michael Hay and freshman Ryan Guttormsen teamed to place fourth in the 400 free relay.

Navy claimed the team championship for both genders. On the men’s side the Midshipmen won by 93 points over Army. The Navy women outscored defending champion Bucknell by 161 points.
