BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior midfielder Christy Smith was named to the NFHCA All-Mideast region first team, it was announced on Wednesday. Recently named the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Year, Smith earns her second straight All-Region nod after landing on the second team following her junior season.
The Downingtown, Pa. native is a three time All-Patriot League selection, earning first team honors following each of the last two seasons. This year, Smith led the Patriot League in scoring during league games, with five goals and 13 points. She ranked third on the Mountain Hawks with 21 points in 2007, and saved her best for crunch-time situations in league play. Smith scored game-winning goals in overtime of all three of Lehigh’s Patriot League wins, as the Mountain Hawks finished the regular season in second place in the league standings.
Smith was recognized as the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Week on three occasions during her senior season. She matched a career high with five-point efforts in Patriot League wins over Holy Cross and Colgate.
For her career, Smith found the back of the cage 22 times and added eleven assists for 55 points. The Mountain Hawks reached the Patriot League tournament in three of her four seasons. This weekend, Smith will take part in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game in College Park, Maryland. She will be the first Lehigh player in six years to play in the game. In the spring, Smith will return to the turf with Lehigh’s women’s lacrosse team, where she is a two time all-league performer as well.
Lehigh wrapped up its 2007 season with an 8-10 record. Mountain Hawk players have now earned three All-Region awards in five years under head coach Julie Mazer. Smith earned honors each of the last two seasons, while Blaire Goodwin was recognized in 2003.
