Lehigh meets No. 16 Yale in final non-league game

Lehigh looks to bounce back following last weekend’s disappointing league opening loss as the Mountain Hawks close out their non-league schedule in Connecticut versus the No. 16 Yale Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.  Lehigh, which has not lost back-to-back games since September 2006, will be looking for its third straight victory over an Ivy League opponent this weekend.  The Mountain Hawks “D” has been solid of late, allowing only 17 points per game in the last four contests.  Yale meanwhile comes into Saturday’s game on a roll, having won all four of its games this season and five in a row overall.  The Bulldogs are led by the bruising rushing of junior Mike McCleod, who has run for 719 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.

The preseason Ivy League favorite Yale Bulldogs come into Saturday’s contest sporting a perfect 4-0 mark.  Yale is a physical team on both sides of the ball, featuring the bruising rushing attack of junior Mike McCleod and a defense that is eighth in the country in total defense (285.0 yards per game).  The Eli are putting up points in bunches, averaging over 41 points per contest, which is fourth in the nation, and they have scored 50 or more points in both of their home games this season.  Quarterback Matt Polhemus has been solid under center in the early going, throwing for 467 yards and two touchdowns, with just one interception.  Yale has lost just once in its last 13 games.

In three of Lehigh’s five games this season, the Mountain Hawks have scored the first time they touched the ball.  Lehigh scored touchdowns versus Princeton and VMI and kicked a field goal against Fordham on its game-opening drives.  With starts like that, it’s no surprise that the Mountain Hawks have outscored their opponents 43-17 in the first quarter and 76-40 in the opening half.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 12:30 from the Yale Bowl.  The game will be televised live on WFMZ-TV, Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh and Fox College Sports Atlantic, as well as Lehighsports.com with Steve Degler, Mike Yadush ’93 and Mike Perlow on the call.  The contest can also be heard live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 along with Lehighsports.com with streaming video and audio powered by Yahoo! Sports.  Matt Kerr, Jeff Tourial and Matt Markus will handle the radio commentary.
