BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior midfielder Christy Smith was one of 38 student-athletes named to participate in the NFHCA Division I Senior All-Star Game, scheduled for Saturday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m. Smith is the lone Patriot League student-athlete selected for the game, and becomes the first Mountain Hawk in six years to be selected to play in the game, which will take place at the University of Maryland’s Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex as part of the NCAA’s Final Four weekend.

“This is a great honor for Christy and one that she is truly deserving of,” said Lehigh head coach Julie Mazer. “Christy is a tremendous athlete and on top of that an excellent student. This will be a great experience for her and we are looking forward to seeing her play.

Mazer concludes, “It’s a great honor to have someone from our team represented in that group, and as a program we’re very excited for her. She deserves it.”

Smith has been a four-year starter and a key component to the Mountain Hawks midfield. The Downingtown, Pa. native is third on the team with six goals and 16 points through 15 games this season. In four Patriot League contests, Smith has three goals and two assists. She has scored overtime game-winning goals in both of Lehigh’s league wins, and has been named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week twice this season.

For her career, Smith has 20 goals and 50 points. She has twice earned All-Patriot League honors and last season was a second team NFHCA second team All-Mideast Region selection. A two-sport standout, Smith stars on the lacrosse field in the spring and is a two-time All-Patriot League selection in that sport as well.

Smith becomes the fifth Lehigh student-athlete to be selected for the All-Star Game. The last Mountain Hawk to earn an invite was Cindy Tindall in 2001.

The Mountain Hawks have two games left in the regular season and can clinch a Patriot League tournament berth with a win over Colgate on Saturday. Lehigh will return to action on Wednesday as the Mountain Hawks host Drexel in their final non-league game of the regular season. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast online at Lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
