BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh picked up its first point of the Patriot League season on Sunday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks played Navy to a 0-0 tie at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks controlled possession early, and had to fend off several quality Navy chances late, but after 110 minutes neither team was able to produce a goal. With the draw, Lehigh stands at 5-5-3, 0-2-1 in league play, while the Mids are now 8-4-3, 1-1-1 in league games.

“I’m happy with the effort,” said Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin. “I thought we had a very good first half, but we didn’t create as many chances as we would have liked to. It’s a point though, and it keeps us in the mix with four league games remaining.”

The Mountain Hawks held the better of possession throughout the first half and managed to out shoot the Mids 5-4 in the opening half. Junior Julie Kafka made one save in her 45 minutes of action.

At the end of regulation, Navy held a 13-12 lead in shots, and that momentum carried into the overtime periods. Navy out shot Lehigh 7-0 in extra time, and on several occasions, Brigitte Fox was able to get behind the Lehigh defense but freshman Lauren Mains made four of her seven saves in overtime to keep the game scoreless.

“They (Navy) are very athletic up top and can be a handful to manage,” said Oudin. I thought our back four did a very good job, and to keep at team like Navy to a clean sheet is a solid effort on our part.”

For the game Navy out shot Lehigh 20-12, while the Mountain Hawks held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks. Mains finished with a career-high seven saves in 65 minutes of action. Lizzie Barnes finished with four saves to earn the clean sheet for Navy.

Senior Melissa Montalvo and sophomore Liz Carlos led Lehigh with three shots apiece, while Fox led all players with six shots, including three on goal, for Navy.

The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Princeton. Game time is set for 7 p.m. with video coverage available online at Lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports. The game will also be televised locally by Service Electric 2 Sports later that night.
