BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Natalie Hojnacki broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 78th minute to give Lehigh a 1-0 victory over Monmouth Saturday afternoon on the Goodman Campus. The Mountain Hawks defense pitched its second shutout of the season, as Lehigh snapped a three game losing streak to improve to 3-4 on the season, while Monmouth falls to 3-2.

“It was nice to come out and get a result at home,” said Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin. “We’re finally starting to get healthier, and while we still have people who are not at 100 percent, a lot of players have been able to provide good minutes on the field.

Each team recorded six shots and three corner kicks in an otherwise uneventful first half. The Mountain Hawks finally broke through, when freshman Lauren Glazebrook found Hojnacki unmarked inside the 18 yard box, and Hojnacki left-footed a shot over Monmouth goalkeeper Katie Buffa for her third goal of the season. Glazebrook picked up her first career assist on the play.

Lehigh’s defense made the lead stand from there. The Mountain Hawks out shot Monmouth 16-12 and each side had six corner kicks. Sophomore Julie Kafka made five saves to record her second shutout of the season.

“Monmouth is always a good team and we always seem to play close matches with them,” said Oudin. “We were able to get a goal today and certainly, we’ll take the result.”

The Mountain Hawks will now embark on a four game road trip that gets underway Tuesday night when Lehigh visits Princeton. Game time is set for 7:00 from Princeton, N.J.
