BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the 2006-07 season on Friday night with the Lehigh Season Opener at Rauch Field House in an unscored meet with Moravian and DeSales.  In the meet, the Mountain Hawk women had a new school record set as freshman Ashlee Atwell cleared 11’1”, breaking the previous mark of 10’ 11¾“ set by Emily Roth '08 in 2005.  The Mountain Hawk women recorded top marks in five events, while the men finished first in six events.

“I’m please with where we are, but it is really early,” said head coach Matt Utesch.  “I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season pans out because we have a lot of talent and we’re really young.”

Continues Utesch, “I foresee the pole vault record falling again in the near future by either Emily or Ashley.  Emily did not jump high today, but she jumped very well and she’s doing things that will help her later in the season.”

After a month-long break, Lehigh returns to action on January 12 when the men’s and women’s teams compete at the Gotham Cup in New York City.
