Mountain Hawks drop 3-1 match to Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Playing in their final away match of the season, the Mountain Hawks fell to archrival Lafayette on Friday night at Kirby Sports Arena.  Lehigh started to come back from a 2-0 deficit by winning the third game, but the Leopards were able to take the fourth game to defeat the Mountain Hawks 3-1.  Game scores were 30-28, 30-16, 23-30 and 30-21.

 

Senior Michelle Schwendenmann earned her eighth double-double in league play—her tenth of the season—recording a team-best 21 kills and 10 digs, while hitting .340.  Junior Shannon Spafford chipped in with 15 kills.  Freshmen Suzee Richter and Mo McReynolds led the team in hitting percentage, recording .667 and .467, respectively.  Freshman Sarah Wolfe put up a match-high 55 assists, while senior Cassidy Maumus recorded a match-best 18 digs. 

 

Lafayette was led by three players who recorded double-digit kills, including two who had double-doubles.  Michaela Donohue and Cara Mulholland each had 17 kills.  Donohue had one of the team’s double-doubles as she had a match-best 14 digs, while Mulholland hit a match-best .773.  Veronica Canto-Ponce, who served seven aces, had the team’s other double-double as she had 15 kills and 10 digs. 

 

Lehigh, 0-27 overall 0-12 in the Patriot League, will wrap up its season next weekend when the Mountain Hawks return to the Leeman-Turner Arena for two matches.  The Mountain Hawks will host Army on Friday, November 10 at 7:00 pm and then Holy Cross the following day at 4:00 pm.
