The Mountain Hawks, 0-28 overall and 0-13 in league play, never trailed the Black Knights until midway through the second game when Army took a 17-16 lead. In the first game, the closest Army ever came to taking the lead occurred when the Black Knights tied the Mountain Hawks three times. However, Lehigh broke each tie en route to winning the first game and recording a .355 hitting percentage. Lehigh and Army remained close during the second and third games, but Black Knights scored nine straight points midway through the fourth game to give them a large enough cushion to secure the win.
Freshman Brittany Thurston earned her third double-double of the season as she had 11 kills and 10 digs, while senior Michelle Schwendenmann led the Mountain Hawk offense with a team-high 17 kills. Junior Shannon Spafford also had 11 kills for the Brown and White. Senior Cassidy Maumus anchored the defense as she had a match-high 19 digs.
Elizabeth Lazzari and Eileen Cassidy each had double-doubles for the Black Knights. Lazzari had a team-high 17 kills and 11 digs as Cassidy had 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Briana Stremick contributed to the Black Knight offense with 13 kills. Maureen Bannon put up a match-high 55 assists.
Lehigh returns to action tomorrow afternoon in what will be their final match of the season. The Mountain Hawks will host Holy Cross at Leeman-Turner Arena. Match time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
