WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Three Lehigh players scored in double figures, led by 17 points from senior Adrienne Blount, but it was not enough as Monmouth erased a ten-point second half deficit en route to a 72-65 overtime win on Wednesday night at Boylan Gym.  Junior Kaela Pearce scored a career-high 14 points and pulled down a personal best six rebounds for Lehigh (2-4) on the night.  Monmouth improves to 4-2 with the win.

Monmouth got out to a quick 10-6 lead in the first 6:11 of the game before water leaking onto the court would delay the game for approximately ten minutes.  When play resumed, the Hawks got two points from Nyaimah Ware to increase the Monmouth lead, but a three-pointer by Pearce and two more points from Blount pulled the Mountain Hawks to within one.

Monmouth would build a seven point lead with 4:35 left in the half to give the Hawks a 20-13 advantage over the Brown and White.  However, Lehigh mounted another comeback, eveninge score at 20-20 with 2:06 left to play.  Jennifer Bender gave Monmouth a 22-20 lead on a lay-up with 1:17 remaining.  As the shot clock nearly expired, a Monmouth foul sent Blount to the line two seconds later, who sank both her attempts.  Senior Sara Ellis nailed a jumper as time expired to give Lehigh a 24-22 lead going into the half.  Ellis’ jumper also pushed her over the 1,100 point mark as she came into the game only needing four more points to reach the barrier.

Lehigh watched its ten-point lead disappear as Veronica Randolph led a Monmouth rally, sinking seven straight points.  With 46 seconds remaining, Randolph tied the score at 56-56.  One second later, Blount gave Lehigh a two-point as she sank both of her free-throw attempts.  However, Lehigh foul would send Bender to the free throw line with 31 seconds left.  Bender sank both of her shots to even the score once again.  The Brown and White had a chance to win it in the last second as Ellis had a jumper that was no good.

In overtime, Monmouth went on a 5-0 scoring run in the opening 2:21 to lead the game 64-60.  Monmouth would further build its lead off a Randolph three-pointer, one field goal and several foul shots to seal the win.

Lehigh returns to action on Friday night when the Mountain Hawks face the Bobcats of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in what will be the first meeting between the two teams.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.  Live audio of the game will be broadcast worldwide online at lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo!
