Mountain Hawks fall to Explorers 3-1

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Playing in their final out-of-league match, the Mountain Hawks looked like they were going to comeback from a 2-0 deficit against La Salle on Tuesday night as Lehigh won the third game 30-28.  However, it would not be enough as the Explorers took the fourth game to defeat the Mountain Hawks 3-1 at Tom Gola Arena.  Game scores were 30-25, 30-20, 28-30 and 30-20.

With the Explorers trailing by just a few points, the Mountain Hawks led most of the third game until La Salle tied the game up 27-27.  However, two kills by junior Shannon Spafford gave Lehigh a much needed two-point cushion as the Mountain Hawks were able to put the game away off a bad set by Brittany Hanley.

Senior Michelle Schwendenmann recorded her ninth double-double of the season as she recorded a match-high 19 kills and 12 digs.  Spafford helped the Mountain Hawk offense, chipping in with 14 digs and hitting a team-best .379.  Senior Cassidy Maumus and freshman Brittany Thurston anchored the defense as they recorded 17 and 15 digs, respectively.

Erin Sullivan led the Explorers with 17 kills while Danielle DiMarco added 13 kills.  Caitlin Connor came up with 48 assists as Carolyn Judge recorded a match-high 19 digs.

The Mountain Hawks, 0-26 overall and 0-11 in the Patriot League,  will play in their final road match of the season on Friday night when they take on archrival Lafayette at Kirby Sports Center.  Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm
