“We got an important result tonight,” said head coach Dean Koski. “With us hosting the tournament, it is a privilege to have that opportunity.”
Koski continues, “The guys did a good job at finding the openings. Colgate is a good defensive team and the best we have faced all season. With patience and perseverance, we were able to break through their defense.”
A direct free kick from 25 yards out led to O’Reilly’s goal--his sixth of the season. O’Reilly’s kick bent towards the top corner of the goal and hit just under the goal post. It was the first goal to get past Colgate goalkeeper David Cappuccio all season.
Senior Jim Morahan earned his 11th shutout of the season, breaking the previous mark of ten set by Sam Bishop in 2003. Morahan recorded seven saves, including two critical stops.
“All season long, Jimmy Morahan has come up big when he has had to,” said Koski. “On one save, it was right on the goal line. The other save was off a rebound. Both of those should have been goals, but Jimmy was there to block them.”
Colgate outshot Lehigh 11-9 and held a 4-1 corner kick advantage.
