Men and women finish strong at Don Mershon

TELFORD, PA. – Lehigh finished up play on Monday at the Don Mershon Invitational as both the Mountain Hawk men and women put forth solid showings.  Lehigh’s men finished in a tie for second place, shooting a 614, which was just two strokes off the lead of St. Francis (Pa.).  On the women’s side, the Mountain Hawks came in third place, after shooting a 699, which placed them behind Siena and Hofstra.  Lehigh’s individual leaders were Alan Borowsky on the men’s side (fifth place – 151) and Yvonne Kukora for the women (seventh place – 167).

 

On the men’s side of things, Steve Suarez placed eighth with a 153, Matt Denison tied for tenth place, after shooting a 154, and Shane Gilroy took 14th place with a 156.  The individual champion was Siena’s Bryan Bigley, who shot a 144 (72, 72), while Bucknell’s Charles Waddell came in second place, and Monmouth’s Anthony Campanile tied with St. Francis’ Nick Wheeler for third place overall.  Lehigh tied with Bucknell for second place, followed by Monmouth, Siena, Hofstra, Fairleigh Dickinson, Lafayette, Wagner, St. Peter’s and Lehigh – Brown.

 

For the women, Caroline Boyer finished tenth with a 172, Allison Webb tied for 17th with 177, Taylor Sauer came in 21st place after shooting a 183, and Tina Olson shot a 187, which was good for 23rd place overall.  Siena College won the event with a team score of 638, followed by Hofstra, the Mountain Hawks, Albany, Mount St. Mary’s and Wagner.  The top four individuals were all from Siena, starting with Laura Woolgar in first place, followed by Megan Angis, Bridget Carr and Melissa Agostinelli.

 

Lehigh is now done with its fall competition schedule, and will return to action in the spring.  The men will head to Williamsburg, Virginia on March 19 to compete in the William & Mary Invitational, while the women will open play the next day at the Kutztown Invite.
