BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh resumes Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks play game four of a six game homestand against the Crusaders of Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks are eager to get back to league play after a hard-fought 4-3 loss in penalty strokes to Lock Haven on Wednesday night; a game in which Lehigh battled a very good Lady Eagles team for 100 minutes but just could not come away with the victory.

On Wednesday night, Lehigh’s seniors played a major role in giving the Mountain Hawks an early lead. Kelsey Smith scored her second goal of the season, while Moira Garrity converted a penalty stroke to put LU up 2-0 and also added an assist on the night. After Lock Haven scored three unanswered goals to take the lead, sophomore Jennifer Cochran forced overtime, scoring with just under five minutes to play. Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Palmieri kept Lehigh in the game late with 11 saves, including eight in the second overtime period. Lock Haven eventually prevailed 4-2 in the penalty stroke-off.

The Mountain Hawks so far in league play own a 3-1 at Bucknell and a tough 1-0 home loss at home to Lafayette. Junior Christy Smith and sophomore Kara Zweizig continue to lead the team in scoring with four goals apiece. They each have a goal in league play, as does freshman Morgan Christopher who scored the game-winner in Lehigh’s win over Bucknell.

Holy Cross comes to town tied with American atop the league standings at 2-0. The Crusaders own league wins over Lafayette and Colgate and most recently earned a 2-1 overtime win over Dartmouth on Monday. Senior Tara Welch leads the Crusaders with 12 goals, including the game winner in overtime versus the Big Green.

The Crusaders lead the all-time series versus Lehigh 13-4 and have won the last nine meetings in the series. Lehigh’s last win over Holy Cross was a 2-1 overtime triumph in 1996. Holy Cross won last year’s meeting 3-1 in Worcester, with Cochran scoring Lehigh’s only goal.

Saturday afternoon’s game gets underway at 1:00 from the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast online at lehighsports.com with streaming audio and video powered by Yahoo! Sports.
