BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh remained unbeaten and started another scoreless streak with a 2-0 shut out of ACC member North Carolina State on Friday evening at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  With the victory, the Mountain Hawks up their record to 6-0-1 on the season, while the Wolfpack falls to 4-3.  Lehigh used an early goal and tight defense to pick up the victory in front of an enthusiastic and raucous home crowd.

"That was probably the best half (first) of soccer we've player since I've been here," explained a very pleased head coach Manny Oudin following the win.  "It was nice to come home on a Friday night and play on our field in front of our fans and put forth such a great effort like we did."

Lehigh jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on the strength of a Jen Fetsick goal, unassisted, just 1:49 into the game off of a broken play in front of the goal.  The Mountain Hawks then added to their lead when junior Gina Lewandowski scored her fourth goal of the season on a beautiful cross pass from Melissa Montalvo to put the home team in front 2-0.  Lehigh then held on to that two goal advantage and took it into halftime.

The second half did not feature as much offense as the first, but each team did have opportunities to score, with neither cashing in.  The Mountain Hawks had several shots from near the 18-yard line, but NC State goal keeper Kim Selz, who entered the game after half time, made a few nice leaping saves on.

In goal for the Mountain Hawks, freshman Julie Kafka picked up the victory with two saves, while Selz finished with three saves of her own, and Wolfpack starter Megan Connors sent back one Mountain Hawk shot.  Lehigh had 13 shots for the game to NC State’s two, while the Brown and White registered four corners and the Wolfpack had three.

Lehigh returns to action on Sunday afternoon when the Mountain Hawks travel to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on the Hawks of Monmouth.  Game time is slated for 2:00.
