Mountain Hawks down UMBC for second straight win

UMBC came out strong, scoring the game’s opening goal just 1:07 into the contest on the strength of a Kristi Troster goal. Lehigh came right back however, as senior Maureen Harrington netted her third score of the season, at the 13:07 mark. The score would remain knotted at one, until senior tri-captain Marissa Iannarone scored her second goal of the year with just 45 seconds left in the half, and Lehigh took its 2-1 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Mountain Hawks struck first, as senior Mary Beth Kuenne scored on a corner play off of an assist from Iannarone, putting Lehigh comfortably in front 3-1 at the 45:46 mark. UMBC scored one more goal of its own, this time by Katie Cutchall with just under seven minutes left in the game, but Lehigh was able to hold on for the victory.
For the game, Lehigh had just six shots, while the Retrievers had eight. The Mountain Hawks were awarded four penalty corners, to the home team’s two, while in goal for the Brown and White, senior tri-captain Meghan Gove played the entire 70 minutes and sent back three shots. UMBC starting goal keeper Ashley Benitez stopped two shots in the cage, before giving way to Kathryn Tag, who did not record any saves in her 16 minutes of action.
