WORCESTER, Mass. – Lehigh dropped a 3-1 decision to Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon in a battle of previously unbeaten Patriot League teams.  With the loss, the Mountain Hawks now sit at 5-8 overall, and 1-1 in Patriot League action, while the Crusaders improve to 6-6 overall, and 2-0 in league play.  Lehigh’s lone goal of the afternoon was scored by freshman Jennifer Cochran off of an assist from sophomore Christy Smith.

The Crusaders jumped on the board first just three minutes into the contest, when Laura Cohen took a feed from Jenna Cook and Susie Whelan and beat Lehigh goal keeper Meghan Gove to give Holy Cross a 1-0 lead.  Cohen then scored her second goal of the day, as Whelan assisted, and with 14 minutes remaining in the half, Lehigh found itself down 2-0, which is how the score would remain heading into halftime.

The Mountain Hawks got on the scoreboard when Cochran scored at the 46:07 mark, and Lehigh had life, down by just one.  But the Crusaders came right back as Tara Welch scored at the 51:58 mark, off of Whelan’s third assist on the afternoon, and Holy Cross was on its way to the victory.

For the game, Gove stopped nine shots in the cage for the Brown and White, while Sonny Kuhn recorded six shots in goal for the Crusaders.  The Mountain Hawks were out shot 14-7 for the game, and did not have any penalty corners, while the Crusaders had five.  Junior Kelsey Smith led Lehigh with two shots, and for Holy Cross, Cook unleashed six.

Lehigh returns to action next Saturday, October 15, when the Mountain Hawks travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the fourth-ranked American Eagles.  Game time is set for 2:00.
