BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two Lehigh players have received Patriot League recognition for their roles in Lehigh’s key 50-34 league win at Colgate on Saturday.  Lehigh sophomore quarterback Sedale Threatt and senior cornerback Andrew Nelson have garnered Patriot League offensive and defensive player of the week awards, respectively.

The Mountain Hawks became the first visiting team to ever score 50 points at Colgate in Saturday’s win.  Lehigh’s victory also snapped Colgate’s 22-game home winning streak against league opposition – a mark that had dated back to the 2001 season, when Lehigh won in Hamilton.  Defensively, Lehigh forced six Raiders turnovers on the afternoon.

Threatt, making his second career start, was one of several Lehigh offensive stars on the afternoon.  He was 17-for-30 through the air for 187 yards and a touchdown.  He also carried 15 times for 100 yards, becoming the first Lehigh quarterback to rush for 100 yards in a game since Brant Hall in 2001.  Threatt completed passes to ten different receivers in the win, as he improved his record to 2-0 as a starter – both Patriot League road wins.

Despite a slow start, the Lehigh defense recovered and allowed only seven second half points by the potent Raiders offense.  Nelson was a key part of the second half resurgence.  He recovered a fumble and made five tackles on the afternoon.  The senior’s biggest play, however, might have been the one that put the game in the win column for Lehigh.  Leading by two in the fourth quarter, Nelson came in on a third down blitz and picked off a Colgate pass at the line of scrimmage, racing 31 yards for the touchdown.  The interception return for a score was Lehigh’s first since September, 2004.

Thanks to Saturday’s road triumph – Lehigh’s fourth straight road win – the Mountain Hawks have climbed three spots in the latest polls, released Monday.  Lehigh has ascended to the 13-spot in the latest Sports Network survey.  The Mountain Hawks are now ranked 13th in the ESPN/USA Today poll as well.

Lehigh (6-2 overall, 2-1 Patriot League) returns to the gridiron on Saturday, November 5, when the Mountain Hawks host Georgetown as part of Family Weekend at Goodman Stadium.  Kick-off is set for just after 12:30, and tickets may be purchased on-line at lehighsports.com or by calling (610) 7LU-GAME during normal business hours.
