The game’s only goal came eleven minutes in as Army converted off a corner kick when Silvia Longo scored off a scramble in front of the goal. The goal was Longo’s second of the season, and just the fourth allowed all year by the Mountain Hawks. Delaney Brown assisted for the Black Knights.
In the second half, Lehigh picked up its intensity and controlled play, out shooting Army 10-2 in the second 45 minutes. The Mountain Hawks had several outstanding scoring chances including a Gina Lewandowski free kick from the top of the 18-yard box, but were unable to beat Rebecca Garcia, who made nine saves to post her fifth shutout.
Julie Kafka made seven saves in a losing effort for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks out shot Army 15-9 for the match and had two corner kicks to Army’s one. Lewandowski, Christin Johnson and Amy Mastromonaco had four shots apiece to lead Lehigh.
“They got an early goal and were able to hang on and keep us off the board in the second half,” said head coach Manny Oudin. “I thought we played well; the intensity was there, we just couldn’t finish and now we’re going to have to pick it up on Sunday.”
The Mountain Hawks return to the pitch on Sunday when they will wrap up the regular season at Holy Cross. The match gets underway at 1:00. Lehigh can still win a share of the Patriot League regular season championship and host the Patriot League Tournament with a win over the Crusaders on Sunday.
