16th-ranked Lehigh set for critical showdown at Colgate

10/26/2005 12:00:00 AM | Football

The winner of the Lehigh-Colgate game has gone on to at least share in the Patriot League title in each of the last seven years.  These two teams have won more league games and league titles than anyone else.  Such is the setup for Saturday’s game between the Mountain Hawks and Raiders in Hamilton.

The Mountain Hawks are in search of their fourth consecutive road win after last week’s 42-10 romp over Bucknell in Lewisburg.  Sophomore quarterback Sedale Threatt, making his first start, threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the win.

Meanwhile, the Raiders have won their last four games and are sitting in a tie for the top spot in the league.  Colgate knocked off previous league unbeaten Holy Cross last time out.  Freshman running back Jordan Scott ran for 222 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Lehigh and Colgate are the top two teams in the Patriot League statistically in three different categories:

Third Down Conv.           1. Lehigh           2. Colgate

Total Offense                 1. Lehigh           2. Colgate

Rushing Defense            1. Colgate         2. Lehigh

Colgate leads the all-time series between these two schools, 24-17-2. Lehigh has captured four out of the last seven meetings. In Hamilton, the Raiders boast a 15-6 advantage all-time, but Lehigh has won four of the last seven meetings at Andy Kerr since 1993. The series began in 1922, with Colgate picking up a 35-6 win over Lehigh in Binghamton, N.Y.

Saturday’s game kicks off at 1:05 pm.  The action can be seen live on WFMZ-TV, FSN Pittsburgh, FCS Atlantic, and lehighsports.com.  Saturday’s showdown can also be heard live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 with Matt Kerr and Kody Fedorcha ’00 beginning at noon.  The radio broadcast will air on-line as well, with streaming provided by Yahoo!
