Mountain Hawks fall in final non-league game to Drexel

10/25/2005 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In its final non-conference contest of the season, Lehigh fell to Drexel 4-0 on a cold, rainy afternoon, on Tuesday.  The Dragons scored two goals in the first half and added another two in the second to pick up their tenth win of the season and run their record to 10-7.  With the loss, Lehigh falls to 6-11.  Head Coach Julie Mazer expressed her thoughts following the game.  “We just couldn’t get any offense going today, which is frustrating coming off of the emotional win over Colgate (on Saturday).  Now, we have three days to prepare for Saturday versus Bucknell, and we plan on being ready for what is going to be a very tough game.”

Drexel got on the board when Amanda Mouser scored off of a feed from Emily Horvat at the 18:49 mark, to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.  Cassie Prentiss then added to the lead when she found the back of the cage at the 26:32 mark.  Lehigh was out shot 12-4 in the first half, and had two penalty corners to Drexel’s two.

Drexel wasted little time in getting its offense going in the second half, as the Dragons scored just 2:09 into the half, when Mouser netted her second goal, this time off of a feed from Rachel Bloemker.  With under ten minutes remaining in the contest, Sarah Gostomski added to the Drexel lead when she scored the fourth and final goal of the game off of a feed from Bronwyn Cox.

For the game, Lehigh was out shot 24-5 and had only three penalty corners to the Dragons ten.  Senior Meghan Gove stopped nine shots in goal for the Brown and White, while Colleen McAndrew sent back three Mountain Hawk shots.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale, when the Mountain Hawks welcome Bucknell to the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Should Lehigh emerge victorious, the Mountain Hawks would qualify for their second consecutive Patriot League Tournament berth.  Game time is set for 1:00.
