LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the first time in school history, Lehigh has started 3-0 in the Patriot League as the Mountain Hawks defeated Bucknell 1-0 Tuesday night at Varsity Soccer Field. Reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week Christin Johnson scored the only goal of the match and the Lehigh defense pitched its tenth shutout of the season as the Mountain Hawks improve to 11-1-1 and vault back into first place in the League with nine points. Bucknell is 7-7, 1-2 in league matches.

The teams played a scoreless first half with each team registering three shots. The Mountain Hawks broke the deadlock in the 66th minute as Gina Lewandowski’s pass found Johnson, who placed a bending shot over the shoulder of Bison keeper Katie Dry for her fourth goal of the season and third in the last two games. The Lehigh defense did the rest, holding Bucknell off the scoreboard to seal its fifth consecutive victory.

Freshman Julie Kafka made four saves to earn her ninth clean sheet of the season. Lehigh out shot Bucknell 10-9 but the Bison had five corners compared to three for the Mountain Hawks. Dry made five saves in a losing effort for the Bison.

“Bucknell worked really hard early on against us,” said head coach Manny Oudin. “Tonight probably wasn’t our best effort, but we got the result and we’re happy to come away with a win on the road.”

The Mountain Hawks return to the pitch on Friday evening then they open up a three match homestand against Army. Game time set for 7:00 from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
