Lehigh drops physical game to Oklahoma State

9/5/2004 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh lost a tough physical game to Oklahoma State 3-1, Sunday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks fall to 2-2-0 on the season, the Cowgirls improved to 3-0-1.

The Cowgirls got on the board in the final minute of the first half as Adriane Radke’s shot from just outside the penalty area sailed over the outstretched arms of Erin Iwaskiewicz.

The Mountain Hawks pulled even in the 51st minute when sophomore Lauren Calabrese buried Daniela Molina’s centering pass in the back of the net. Oklahoma State regained the lead five minutes later when Jolene Schweitzer scored on a breakway feed from Ashlyn Brantley. Schweitzer’s initial attempt was blocked by Iwaskiewicz , but she pounced on the rebound to make it 2-1. The Cowgirls got an insurance goal when Brantley scored on a penalty kick in the 86th minute.

Despite the loss coach Manny Oudin was pleased with the effort.

“I thought we battled hard,” Oudin said. “I know the girls are disappointed with the result, but it’s part of the growth of this team.

Oudin praised his team’s intensity and the fact they were able to match the Cowgirls’ physical play. He says the team needs to start taking advantage of opportunities they’re given.

“We’re not capitalizing on other teams mistakes,” Oudin said. “We have to start doing so.”

The Mountain Hawks return to action Tuesday night when they host Saint Josephs. Game time set for 7:00 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. That game will be broadcast live on the web at lehighsports.com.  A replay of Sunday's Oklahoma State match will be shown on Service Electric Cable's 2 Sports on Sunday night at 10:30 pm.
