Mountain Hawks earn first road victory at St. Francis

9/28/2004 12:00:00 AM | Women's Soccer

– The Mountain Hawks picked up their third consecutive victory Tuesday afternoon defeating St. Francis (PA) 1-0. The win was Lehigh’s first on the road this season and improved the Mountain Hawks record to 6-4-0. St. Francis falls to 2-6-0.

The first half of the game was played in a steady rain, as the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne passed through Pennsylvania. Freshman Melissa Montalvo scored the game’s lone goal, her third of the season, in the 17th minute. Sophomore Karilyn Anderson picked up her team-leading sixth assist.

Lehigh outshot St. Francis 10-3, while the Mountain Hawk defense kept the Red Flash without a shot on goal. Senior Erin Iwaskiewicz posted her third consecutive shutout without having to make a save.

“It was big for us to come here and get our first road win,” said coach Manny Oudin.

“We drove four hours to get here, so to go home with this result is very nice.”

The Mountain Hawks will try to extend the win streak to four when they welcome Bucknell to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. Game time set for 1:00, the game can be heard live on Lehigh’s website at lehighsports.com.
