Lehigh controls Bucknell and wins 2-1

Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh controlled the action for most of the game and defeated Bucknell 2-1 in front of 321 fans on a beautiful afternoon at Ulrich Sports Complex on Sunday. With the win, Lehigh improves to 7-4 overall and remains perfect at 2-0 in Patriot League play, while Bucknell fall to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League. Sophomore Daniela Molina scored the game-winner with less than 15 minutes left and the Mountain Hawks held on for the victory. Lehigh fell behind early as Bison freshman forward Krista Lee Gentile scored on a pass from senior midfielder Meghann Chipko in the 18th minute. The goal was Bucknell’s only shot of the first half, while the Mountain Hawks had a bevy of scoring chances and took ten shots in the first period. Senior midfielder Jocelyn Helwig moved into second place on Lehigh’s all-time assist list with her set-up of freshman Jennifer Fetsick’s 30th minute game-tying goal. Senior captain goalkeeper Erin Iwaskiewicz made three saves on her way to the win.
Molina, seeing her first action in almost a month due to illness, scored on a pass from fellow substitute Shannon Lockwood. The Lehigh bench had a huge day, as Fetsick is also a reserve.
“It’s nice to know that we can go 18 or 19 players deep,” head coach Manny Oudin said. “Anyone can step in and do a good job.”
