Mountain Hawks unable to hold off Navy

Annapolis, MD - The Mountain Hawks were unable to hold onto a pair of leads as they fell to Navy 4-2 Friday night. The loss snaps Lehigh’s four game winning streak as the Mountain Hawks fall to 7-5 overall, 2-1 in the Patriot League. Navy is now 7-6-1 (1-3 Patriot League).

 

The Mountain Hawks got on the board in the 23rd minute as Gina Lewandowski’s headed Jocelyn Helwig’s pass into the top left corner of the net, and Lehigh took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

 

The Midshipmen would tie the game early in the second half as Lauren Griebel headed in the equalizer off a corner kick. Lehigh would regain the lead in the 53rd minute as Lewandowski tallied her second goal of the game and ninth of the season. The lead stood for another 20 minutes, before Navy rallied to score three times in the game’s final 20 minutes. Maggie Curran tied the game in the 73rd minute and then scored the game winner nine minutes later. Carmen Myers would provide an insurance goal in the 84th minute.

 

“It’s a tough loss for our girls,” said coach Manny Oudin. “Even when they got their third goal, we thought we were still in it but the fourth one was scored right after.”

 

Navy out shot Lehigh 18-7. Erin Iwaskiewicz made three saves for the Mountain Hawks, who coming into this game were 2-0 in the Patriot League for the first time in team history.

 

The Mountain Hawks return to the pitch on Monday when they host Towson. Game time set for 7:00 from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
