Philadelphia, PA – Lehigh was defeated by a score of 3-1 by
Temple on Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both teams. The two teams were even for the majority of the first half, but a late goal by the Owls in the first stanza, gave them the lead heading into intermission.
Temple jumped on the board first when Jen Adamek scored a goal at the 27:12 mark of the opening half. Lehigh then knotted the contest up at one when junior Marissa Iannarone scored Lehigh’s lone goal of the afternoon with 12:22 remaining in the first half off of an assist from senior tri-captain Krista Jamieson.
Temple then received a goal from Talia Ruth with just 1:50 remaining in the first half to put the home team in front 2-1. Dannon Mehaffey found the back of the net just 53 seconds into the second half and Lehigh found itself in a 3-1 hole. Lindsay Holman picked up two assists on the day for Temple, as did Katie Stevevenson, while Megan Mannahoe assisted on a score as well.
Senior Sheila Clabby led Lehigh with six shots on the day, and for the Owls, Mehaffey and Adamek both got off four shots.
Senior Jeanine Hoff recorded five saves in goal for Lehigh, while junior Meghan Gove registered four saves of her own. Temple’s goalie, Erin Conroy stopped eight Lehigh shots on the afternoon. Both teams had seven penalty corners on the day, while the Mountain Hawks unleashed 15 shots, and the Owls had 18.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they play host to Lock Haven at the Ulrich Sports Complex. That game is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 and all of the action can be heard live on lehighsports.com.
